Serena Software has a lot to offer within the enterprise software industry. After all, they are a major manufacturer and offer many products and solutions that help both IT and business users. But as of late, the company has made a name for itself in another way.

Serena Software is one of the first companies that are encouraging employees to communicate with each other via Facebook. As you probably know, most firms are attempting to keep employees away from social networking sites during the work day. But Jeremy Burton, CEO of Serena Software, feels that using Facebook is a great way for employees to become more familiar with each other. He said, “Facebook fills the missing link between e-mail and talking to someone directly. You find what people are interested in,”

Every Friday, Serena Software gives employees one free hour of work time to update their Facebook profile. Additionally, the company also sets aside a few minutes the rest of the days for similar activities. Not only does this give employees the opportunity to communicate, but it also gives them a break in the day.

It will be interesting to see if more companies take on this practice. At this time, it seems to be working just fine for the successful enterprise software company, Serena Software.
