When it comes to the two biggest players in the enterprise software industry, you do not have to look any further than SAP and Oracle. These two giants are not only making waves with their new product offerings, but also in the way that they continue to buy other companies.

Most recently, SAP acquired Business Objects for $6.8 billion. This allows them to diversify into the business intelligence software industry, which is geared towards companies that are interested in managing and analyzing data.

On the other side of the industry, Oracle has recently offered to purchase BEA Systems for an estimated $6.6 billion. Even though BEA has been struggling as of late, a lot of this has to do with increased competition from companies such as Oracle, among others.

Both SAP and Oracle see these acquisitions as a way to increase their product line, while also expanding into new markets.

Oracle has been making acquisitions, such as the BEA deal, for several years. And of course, SAP is no slouch either. With both companies interested in expanding, it is safe to say that they will remain at the top of the enterprise software industry for the foreseeable future.
