There is a very important trend that is likely to become increasingly more noticeable within the enterprise software industry over the next few years. That being that the big name companies will begin to drag others into the game. For instance, Microsoft has always had a lot of influence within the software and tech related industries. For this reason, expect to see companies such as IBM following in line sooner rather than later; at least within the enterprise applications sector.
There are several reasons that companies begin to follow others into the enterprise software industry. First off, they are aware that there are big profits to be had if opportunities are approached in the appropriate manner. To go along with this, companies that have yet to get involved are afraid of being left behind. For this reason, they will do whatever it takes to start creeping in the right direction.
In addition to new companies jumping into enterprise software, smaller firms will be eaten up by larger competitors. This effect has already been seen in the way that BEA Systems and Oracle have bought out smaller operations as a way of increasing profits and offerings.
There is no denying that the enterprise software industry is on the move. This trend is only going to grow over the next year or so.
